Job Outlook

The job outlook for the medical profession is huge and ever expanding.  This is GREAT news for those of us who want to enter into this field and we don't have to use needles or be poked by another student.....Unless you want to.  While all of this sounds great and I'm very optimistic I must suggest that you look closely at the actual job ads.  Take notes.  Count. Add, divide, and average, stick a percent sign somewhere.  You will 9 times out of 10 need experience in the field you are going into.  It's the old catch 22.  See Dr.'s like to hire coders (for instance) who have been coding for at least 2 years.  They also like to hire billers (for instance) who have been billing for at least two years.  You get the point.  They're also picky on the kind of coding experience you have so if youhave experience in radiology coding but not outpatient coding then you might as well not have experience.  Aaannndd, you'll need your certification.  Aaannndd, you'll need a good work history.  Soooo if you have been sitting on the couch going from dead end job to dead end job you still don't qualify.  Now, there's hope, there are some people who actually get their foot in the door.  A Dr. realizing that everyone has to start somewhere just he/she did and notices that the student has made great grades and great attendance might give you a chance.  We hear stories at the school like these but then they say, "this is a special circumstance it doesn't happen often so don't get your hopes up."  There. Aaanndd, when I went on my internship the people who were training me only had a highschool education (barely) and couldn't spell or use correct grammar, and they got the job, without an education, so interpret that how you'd like.
